Mission
Through performances of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Lips Down on Dixie (LDOD) strives to provide a safe environment and fun entertainment source where young adults between the ages of 17 and 29 are able to fully be themselves and not be pressured to drink alcohol or consume illicit drugs.
Vision
Young adults in the Metro Atlanta area are empowered to live the quote “Don’t dream it, be it.”
Values
Inclusiveness - All are welcome to attend performances or join the LDOD cast regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, class, ability, size or other social identities. Additionally, the cast follows a gender and race inclusive casting policy which allows any cast member to play any part so long as they receive screen accuracy approval and can wear cast costumes or provide their own costume.
Artistry - LDOD cast members engage in a variety of forms of art, from acting and dancing to prop and costume construction. We pride ourself on being a launching board for rising actors and theater technicians in the metro Atlanta area.
Accuracy - LDOD strives to be a screen accurate performance and constantly works to improve not only the accuracy of the performers but also the accuracy of the props.
Growth - Those who join the LDOD cast will grow in their personal, leadership, and artistic skills as it relates to their roles in the cast.
Safety - In addition to providing a safe environment for attendees to not feel pressured to drink alcohol or take illicit drugs, LDOD cast members also adhere to an alcohol and drug-free performance policy.
Self-Love and Self-Confidence - LDOD empowers both audiences and cast members to have the courage to be their full authentic selves.
Fun - Attendee’s and cast member’s experiences at The Rock Horror Picture Show should be a fun, engaging experience filled with fantasy, escape, and comedy.
History
In June 2000, Lips Down on Dixie (LDOD) was formally organized. LDOD was formed to perform screen accurate productions of The Rocky Horror Picture Show every Friday night as an alternative entertainment source for the metro Atlanta area. Specifically targeting the 17-29-year-olds in the area as a place to come have fun and not be pressured to drink alcohol or consume illicit drug substances. On December 1, 2000, LDOD premiered at the LeFont Plaza Theater (now Plaza Theater) in the Poncey-Highlands neighborhood of Atlanta. Since then, LDOD has performed their screen accurate production every single Friday night at The Plaza Theater and has now advanced on to being the headlining show for DragonCon.
